How to Look After Your Teeth at Christmas
We bet the last thing you want this Christmas is to worry about your dental health. However, your dental health, especially your teeth, can be extra vulnerable this Christmas due to the abundance of sweet treats available during this time of the year. We want to make sure everything for you goes well this Christmas season. Read on for helpful tips on protecting your mouth.
Beware of the ‘Prosecco Smile’
Drinks can cause a serious problem with our dental health. Dentists have a name for how a sparkling wine’s high sugar content could leave drinkers with rotten teeth: “Prosecco Smile”.
When it is possible, try adding some ice to your drinks to minimise the risk of damaging your teeth, as it not only dilutes your drink but it also minimises the amount of acid because of it being cold.
Using a straw can even do the trick!
Stick With Water
Alcohol, juice, wine, sweetened beverages, and soda – these are all beverages we enjoy during the holidays. Remember to rinse your mouth with water after drinking them, to protect your teeth from all that sugar.
Keep Up With Oral Hygiene
Remember to brush and floss your teeth daily: in the morning when you wake up and at night before going to bed. Losing that sense of routine can be bad news for your teeth if you are forgetting to take proper care of them.
You may be surprised, but brushing your teeth may actually make you feel better! The health and cleanliness of our mouth can have a profound effect on our overall sense of well-being. When your mouth is clean, you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. So, don’t forget to keep up on your oral hygiene routine.
Your team at DentalCareXtra certainly hope that none of our patients experience a dental emergency this holiday season. So you’d better be taking care of your dental health. Better yet, schedule a checkup with us before the holidays.
