Dental Crown and Bridge

Here at DentalCareXtra, we offer same-day crowns at all of our Practice that you don’t need to travel to. Crowns and bridges are restorative options for improving the strength and function of your existing teeth or replacing missing teeth.

What is Dental Crown and Bridge?

A Crown (commonly called a “cap”) is a precisely made restoration usually made from ceramic or metal. The existing tooth is prepared and shaped, then the crown is placed over the top. This gives the tooth strength, durability, and can improve its appearance. Crowns are often used to strengthen weak teeth or teeth with very large fillings, but can also be used to address concerns about the appearance of a tooth, including its colour.

A Bridge is similar to a Crown but used to replace missing teeth. Bridges can replace one, two or even more teeth next to each other. Unlike an implant, which is free-standing, a bridge is attached to the teeth on either side.

Important Information

Individual results vary: The outcome and longevity of crowns and bridges depend on factors including your oral health, bite forces, oral hygiene practices, and the condition of supporting teeth.

What to consider:

  • Crown and bridge procedures typically require at least two appointments (unless same-day crowns are suitable for your case)
  • The tooth structure needs to be prepared, which involves removing some enamel
  • You may experience temporary sensitivity following the procedure
  • Proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups are essential for the longevity of crowns and bridges
  • Crowns and bridges may need replacement over time due to wear or changes in supporting teeth
