Smile with confidence with our Fixed Wire Braces
Are you dreaming of a perfect smile? We’re thrilled to help our patients achieve a stunning smile.
Braces are the traditional method of straightening teeth and correcting bite issues. Using brackets and wires, braces guide your teeth slowly as they adjust to their correct position. Treatment involves a series of gradual adjustments over the course of several months to bring you the smile you’ve always wanted. Our team at DentalCareXtra will work with you to provide regular adjustments and check-ups during your treatment.
At the conclusion of your treatment, you can confidently show the world the smile you’ve always wanted.
Who needs braces?
Braces are used to correct crooked teeth and misaligned overbites. While teens make up the greatest number of braces wearers, we recommend patients receive an initial consultation when patients are 5 years old. Treatment can be more comfortable and speedier when begun at an early age. If you’re an older teen or adult, don’t worry! We can still fit you with braces and create the smile of your dreams. There’s no age limit for patients who want to receive orthodontic treatment.
Braces provide more than just a beautiful smile. Most people associate braces with cosmetic procedures. However, straight teeth and proper bites provide far more than just beautiful teeth.
Benefits of braces also include:
- Improved chewing ability. A correct bite and teeth that meet properly allow you to chew food well. As chewing improves, so does digestion.
- Better ability to care for your teeth. Properly spaced teeth are easier to clean and care for than crowded teeth.
- Freedom from some speech impediments. Certain dental issues can be responsible for a variety of speech impediments. While not the case for all patients, some note clearer speech after treatment.
What should I expect from treatment?
You’ll receive an initial consultation with our team at DentalCareXtra. We’ll make moulds of your teeth and take X-rays. This allows us to create a specialized plan for your treatment. From these images and models, we’ll create a treatment plan specifically for you. Individualized plans allow you to receive the best possible treatment.
You may have some initial work done on your next visit. This could include spacer insertion or tooth extractions if needed. If you don’t need any preliminary work, we’ll perform a braces placement.
The brackets are bonded to your teeth and wires are used to gradually move the teeth to their proper location. Small rubber bands affix the wire to your brackets. In some cases, spacers, rubber bands, or other gear may be used to redirect your teeth.
You’ll have follow-up visits with our team roughly every month. At each visit, you’ll receive adjustments to your braces. Every adjustment moves the teeth a bit more, bringing you closer to your goal. At your follow up visits, our team will also ensure you’re following proper care instructions and your teeth remain healthy during treatment.
Most patients wear braces for approximately 12-24 months. The actual length of treatment varies depending on your desired outcomes and specific treatment plan. Patients with straighter teeth will need a shorter treatment time than those with very crooked teeth or bite issues.
During treatment, it’s critical to practice excellent oral hygiene, and have regular dental visits (every six months).
Will it hurt?
A lot of patients are worried about the potential pain related to braces treatments.
You may feel some tooth and jaw discomfort in the first days following each adjustment. Most patients find relief by taking ibuprofen or Tylenol and sticking with soft foods like yogurt and mashed potatoes for a day or two. Most patients find the discomfort subsides in about 2-3 days following most adjustments.
