DentalCareXtra always try to go the "Xtra" mile when it comes to helping you out in an Emergency when you need urgent care.
Dental emergencies tend to pop up when you least expect them. When they do, you might need same-day urgent care or the option to walk-in to an emergency dentist’s practice for immediate treatment (especially if you’re in pain).
Common Dental Emergencies
• Broken and Chipped Teeth
• Knocked Out/Loose Teeth
• Loose Dental Work
We want to do everything possible to help you save your smile and avoid an unnecessary tooth extraction in the event of a dental emergency.
If you knock out or break a tooth, contact our emergency dentist straight away. It’s best to see you within the hour to attempt to reinsert or bond the tooth back into place.
For teeth that are completely whole, you can try to insert them back into the socket immediately. Do not force the tooth into place if it won’t go. Take note not to handle the root, as there are tiny fibres which help aid in reattachment.
In the meantime, store your tooth or fragment in a sealed container, completely submerged in saline, contact solution, milk, or if none of those are available a small amount of tap water with a pinch of table salt.
If there is bleeding, apply a clean cloth or gauze to the area until bleeding stops. If it doesn’t, or you suspect a severe injury such as a broken jaw, head to the nearest emergency room.
It can be tempting to try to put a crown or bridge back over your tooth without a dentist’s help, but doing so could trap bacteria under your restoration, making the situation worse. If your crown is on a visible tooth and you can’t get to our practice immediately, you can use a temporary dental cement sold in the drugstore. Otherwise, store it in a zip-top bag and bring it to see if it can be reattached.
Two of the best ways to prevent the dental emergencies of our patients are wearing a protective sports mouthguard during physical activities and scheduling treatment when problems are first diagnosed. Delaying care due to a lack of pain can allow cracks or cavities to expand, posing significant risk to your oral health.
