Snoring Can Be Treated

You don't need to put up with snoring. There is a range of treatment options available to address the problem.

Possible treatment options may include:

  • Conservative treatment e.g. weight management, smoking cessation, reduction in alcohol consumption
  • Orofacial Myology exercises (facial muscle strengthening)
  • Latest cutting-edge, non-ablative laser treatment - NightLase
  • Oral appliances
  • CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) device
  • ENT - Referral for possible surgical correction (if necessary)

There are a number of risk factors that impact the effectiveness of treatment and which therefore cause the treatments to be modified. They are:

  • Obesity: BMI > 26 with increased fat distribution around neck and waist
  • Altered body structures e.g. small lower or upper jaw, narrow upper dental arch
  • Soft tissue changes e.g. large tonsils, large tongue, inflamed throat, enlarged uvula
  • Alcohol consumption, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disease
  • Sleeping position e.g. back or stomach
