Wisdom teeth are the last tooth series to appear in the mouth and often can lead to problems if there isn’t enough space for them to surface or they come through in the wrong position.

If your Clinician says your wisdom teeth are impacted, he or she means they are trapped in your jaw or under your gums. This can cause decay, damage to adjacent teeth and cause infection around surrounding gums.

To aid in the diagnosis and treatment plan for wisdom teeth, DentalCareXtra will take 3D X-rays.

Treatments can be designated for non-surgical and surgical management at Mackay Specialist Day Hospital.

Non-surgical management involves maintaining and undertaking a regular review of your condition with a special emphasis on keeping them as clean as possible.

Surgical management involves the removal of your wisdom teeth in either the dental chair under local anaesthesia, oral sedation or a General Anaesthetic*.
