Project Smile Background
Based on a Jamaican initiative by Dr Anissa Holmes, Project Smile was developed to provide comprehensive dental treatment to individuals in our community who face barriers to accessing care.
The initiative attracted over 90 applications from across the community. Seven individuals were selected to receive dental treatment, each sharing their personal experiences with dental health challenges.
What was highlighted through this process was the impact that compromised oral health can have on a person’s ability to eat and speak comfortably—two fundamental aspects of daily function that, when affected, can complicate a person’s quality of life.
Another aim of the initiative was to help people overcome dental anxiety and to support the development of regular oral health routines that play an important role in overall health maintenance.
Project Smile provided seven individuals with comprehensive dental treatment, playing a role in addressing their oral health needs and demonstrating the important function dentistry serves in supporting people’s health.
Our Project Smile Journey
Our team at DentalCareXtra believes in giving back to the community in which we serve. We established Project Smile in Queensland to provide comprehensive dental treatment to individuals who may otherwise face barriers to accessing this care.
Here at DentalCareXtra, we understand that for many people, accessing cosmetic and restorative dentistry can present challenges. We understand that various factors—including costs, time commitments, and dental anxiety—can affect whether people proceed with dental treatment. That’s why our team is committed to supporting our local communities. We value being part of the community and strive to provide quality dental care.
Seven individuals were selected through an application process to receive comprehensive dental treatment at our DentalCareXtra practices.
Individual results vary. The outcomes achieved by these patients do not necessarily reflect the results other patients may experience.
